The role will involve:

• Hands on involvement with the product ionization of prototypes.
• Leading on an initiative to establish a framework and processes for the deployment of trading applications with minimum effort and operational risk
• Establish processes for the support of both permanent and short-lived desktop applications and components.
• Ensuring adoption of appropriate development best practice.
• Taking an active role in the development & support of new and improved trading analytics, services and systems.
• Help to support and stream line existing trading infrastructure, tools and libraries.
• Work with S&V on their new research areas to aid with delivery and support considerations by proposing improvements to current processes.

The successful candidate will have:

• University education with solid analytical, mathematical, and problem solving skills, preferably in a numerical discipline (computer science, mathematics, physics, and/or economics).
• Formal education and 5 plus years work experience in software development and object oriented design.
• Excellent understanding of development processes and best practice.
• Demonstrable involvement in solutions to Interoperability problems involving the MSOffice toolset.
• Strong development background with enterprise delivery experience, (ideally with involvement in a RAD team).
• Work experience in a Front / Middle Office environment with a trading organisation, (preferably within energy commodities).
• An appreciation of mathematical modelling, optimisation, and numerical methods.
• The desire to learn about all aspects of energy trading business.
• The ability to learn new skills and understand complex business issues quickly.
• Strong communication skills and track record of delivery.
• Disciplined and organised approach to work with the ability to work within tight deadlines and under pressure.
• Willingness to adopt a flexible attitude to changing working environments and processes.
Profile of Technical Skills Required:
• Practical understanding of software engineering best practice in enterprise environments.
• Microsoft development environment, especially .NET, Visual C/C++, Visual Basic (Java and/or scripting language (e.g. Python) development expertise desirable but not essential).
• Excellent Understanding of MS Office package, with particular emphasis on Excel/VBA.
• Experience in the development of web-services and a practical understanding of service oriented architectures (experience with TIBCO would be beneficial).
• Familiar with Oracle and SQL Server Database development environments.
• Familiar with Windows XP operating system, knowledge of other operating systems helpful (Linux, Sun/Solaris) but not essential.
